The Visitor Centre
Miramare MPA Visitor Centre is located at the ground floor of the “Castelletto of Miramare” (the Gartenhaus, as Maximilian of Habsburg called it), which was designed and built at the end of the 19th Century by Engineer Carl Junker as a main castle’s outbuilding. The “Castelletto” has the same structure of the nearby Castle of Miramare – although on a smaller scale – and it hosts Miramare MPA’s operational headquarters since 1988, when it was given in concession to WWF Italy by the Superintendence for the Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Patrimony.
The Visitor Centre hosts an interactive educational exhibition that can be tailored to each visitor’s interests and age. However, this is not a traditional museum exhibition: here there are no panels full of descriptions at all! Following the hands-on approach of American and British scientific museums, Miramare MPA staff has designed a special indoor discovery tour, where visitors get to know local animals and plants and their life environment through exciting multisensory tours.
